Why PRO Compression: Giving Compression Socks a Go!
Guest dude Mike introduced us to PRO Compression socks over two years ago, and we will admit that we were dubious at first:
- Would we look like little kids?
- Aren’t they expensive?
- Why do I need them?
- Surely that’s a gimmick?
- Can you wear them only if you are fast?
While Mike is a jokester, he is also the guy who we trust to put the water (and chocolate milk!) out for our long runs and who carries all our extra crap (whoops, I mean essential items needed) during a marathon or training run, so when he started showing up to runs wearing knee socks, we figured there had to be something to them. Then, he sent us his Sock of the Month club email. We could try those socks for 40% off, and that month, the SOM was EVERY sock! Woo hoo!
Then, I suppose, you could say it just snowballed on from there. We all now have multiple pairs in multiple patterns and swear by them for different reasons. We love them so much we affirmatively reached out to PRO Compression asking to be ambassador for their brand — and we were THRILLED when we were accepted. Having something like that happen is one of the whole reasons we started this blog in the first place — we love certain brands and we want to promote and better them!
Are we biased? Well, yes. But not because we got any free socks (we haven’t yet) or because we are ambassadors. We are ambassadors and hope to get free socks because we are biased!
What’s so great about these socks, then, you may ask? Well, we each have a different answer and will tell you! (Oh, and there is some nice technical info on the PRO Compression website . . . that’s beyond me, I just know how my legs feel!)
Why I wear them: I wear PRO Compression socks for any run longer than 10 miles, the day after any run over 18 miles for recovery purposes, for biking after running, and on shorter runs when it is cold. I also wear them on airplanes — wow it makes a difference in how your legs feel after! And I guess the airplane comment is it. The socks keep your feet, ankles, & lower legs from swelling, so you feel better. And, frankly, they make it far easier to walk & manage soreness after a long run.
Favorite patterns: HEARTS! Both the red and this year’s pink! I also love my lavender MJs with stars.
Why I wear them: After my first sock purchase, I have not returned to the sleeves. These socks provide a sturdy grip on my calves, arches, and ankles, offering a stability I appreciate.
I have worn them on long and short runs, both in races and training runs. I have worn them for recovery after long runs both the same day and the day after. I have worn them on airplanes.
I love these socks!!!
Favorite color: Well, pink of course!
Sometimes I wear them just to match my workout attire (fun!) or if it is cold.
I love wearing my pro compression socks for recovery.
Surprising problem: Every time my SOM email arrives, I have to delete it immediately. Of course, my skortaholic girls will keep telling me how cute the SOM is and I end up ordering them anyway!
My husband may divorce me if I keep buying socks . . .
Why I wear them: A few of my fellow Skortaholics raved about how the Pro Compression marathon socks helped keep their legs warm during cold weather runs. Since my legs were freezing during one of the runs, I decided that I had to try these wonder socks. I am so glad that I did. The marathon socks are great for keeping your legs warm on winter runs, for recovery after a long run, and for airplane/road trips.
The calf sleeves work well for treadmill runs.
I recently purchased the mid and low socks for runs in warmer weather. The low sock felt great on a recent treadmill run. I’ll definitely purchase a few more pairs of the low trainer socks. The PC Runner, neon will probably be my next purchase — I love the colorful pattern!
Favorite patterns: I love my pink/yellow stars and black/polka dot marathon socks.
Yes, I wear them while running, biking and hiking – but I also wear them on recovery days, on airplanes, and for long site-seeing excursions. Over the past couple years I have worn them in the Philippines to help with humanitarian aid after Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda. I wore a different pair each day of the week while trekking the roads of Paris and London on a vacation. I always wear them on the airplane. I especially wore them for days after my BQ Marathon. I wear them to help my numerous varicose veins as a result of post-five babies. I even convinced my cousin (who is not an athlete) that they would help her aching legs as she teaches school all day. She now can’t live without them.
I love my socks. They are comfortable, practical, therapeutic, bright and fun to wear. They will go with me wherever I go in this world…
Anyway, I don’t actually wear these while running . . .
I wear these after marathons and long training runs, and they definitely help.
I also wear them at work (see photo) because I wear a lead apron and stand all day, and they are great! My legs feel loads better after a full days work when I’m wearing Pro Compression socks.
Mainly, though, they are cute and useful.
Their cuteness speaks for themselves (Hello? Hearts! Clovers! Stripes!).
As far as usefulness, they are great for long runs and tough, shorter runs. They seem to help with the calf soreness that I usually get after these kinds of runs.
I also used them right after my C-Section when my legs were twice their normal sizes. They helped with the swelling, and just made me feel better; after all, I was wearing the retro, blue, red and yellow striped socks 🙂
Favorite: I thought it was the retro pair, but now it’s the jailbreak!
Give these socks a try — you support a product made in the U.S.A., they are great looking (I won’t say cute for the guys who may be reading this), and once you try them, you will not go back!
Have you tried compression socks?
